A fruit lover almost bit off more than he could chew as he prepared to tuck in to a Sainsbury's Taste the Difference Mandarin orange.

Hassan Ali, 25, and his colleagues had already wolfed down three tiny oranges before he peeled a fourth and discovered a wriggling larva alongside hundreds of eggs.
"The smell was horrible, disgusting. It smelt like really strong rotting food," said Hassan, from West Yorkshire.
"I looked inside and there was some kind of maggot or larvae and millions of little eggs
"Someone said they thought they saw the maggot moving, but I didn't see it. It hasn't moved for a while. I think it's dead now."

After throwing the snack into the bin, he added: "We'd eaten three mandarins from the bag before we got to this one.
"After lunch I thought I'd go back and have another. Luckily, I split this one in half and had taken a segment out before I put it in my mouth."
The Mandarins had been grown in South Africa and were bought from the Sainsbury's at Manchester Piccadilly Station.
Fortunately, Hassan said he didn't eat any of the stinky eggs - and the experience hasn't put him off fruit for life.
"I don't feel ill after eating the other mandarins, but my colleague had one and says she feels a little queasy now.

Dinnertime: Sainsbury's apologised for the find

"I'm not really that put off by it. I don't even think this will put me off buying fruit from Sainsbury's again.
"I contacted them via Twitter to let them know. I also sent a tweet to Defra just to be on the safe side."
Sainsbury's have apologised for the incident and offered Hassan a gift card.
A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “The quality of our products is hugely important to us and we’re sorry that Hassan has had this experience.
"Like all our products, citrus fruit is checked at several points throughout the supply chain, but due to the very nature of fresh produce, occasionally incidents such as this may occur.”
